Utopian Nights
By: Florence Mwanza
And yet the truth is revealed
A midnight forest hidden in the dark
Lies that are kept from an innocent soul
And fears that are revealed to ones who were lost
There she sat
Afraid, unaware
Thought no one could ever bear the pain she felt
And as the time passed, her pain didn’t ease
But bloomed into agony not ever revealed
Stormy clouds blinded by the light of the sun
No one ever shall know how deep the wound goes
And only in a cycle of a young girl’s life
Did a teenager dream of utopian nights
Did a teenager long for a starry night sky
Even hope was enough to boost her up high
Did the sun ever blind her and leave her alive
But it only ever faded among the bright lights
Only ever faded as the stars outshined her
Who could ever convince her she was unlike the others
A never ending cycle of midnight lights
Said the teenager who dreamt of utopian nights
